By taking a (very) short movie on my camera, then opening it in Photoshop cs5 extended and using layer masks to painstakingly select the parts of the scene I want moving and still. Then I play around with the layer order to make sure it all fits together and lines up, to make sure that the movement appears continuous and smooth when I publish it as a gif file.
